FROM THE BOARD

We are pleased to announce that Phil Alexander and Luisa Beck have been appointed to our school Board. We are thrilled to have them on board (pun intended).

Health Policy statement

At our last Board meeting the Board approved the policy statement for this curriculum area, as below:

Health and Physical Education/Hauora is one of the eight essential learning areas of the New Zealand Curriculum.

With health education, the focus is on the wellbeing of students themselves, of other people and of society, through learning in health-related contexts. Through these contexts of learning, students build a deeper understanding and awareness of the four key learning areas of health: mental health, relationships and sexuality education, food and nutrition, and body care and personal safety.

At Linton Camp School, we plan and deliver a range of programmes which promote:

  • health and wellbeing

  • affirms children’s uniqueness, self-confidence and hauora

  • celebrates cultural diversity and richness

  • positive affirmation of self

With this, Aotearoa/New Zealand’s population is becoming an increasingly rich and diverse population. As such, we will be aware of the shifting norms in relation to gender and sexuality and work alongside external agencies and whānau to provide support and guidance in these areas.

The rise of social media is a daily influence on our young tamariki and programmes will empower tamariki to be discerning with content and to reinforce their positivity and confidence. Alongside these programmes, we may also deliver one-off programmes, aimed at supporting a current issue or need, to build students’ understanding, knowledge and awareness. Supporting the health curriculum are our Linton Camp School values and Future Skills which are interwoven into our programmes.

Health Education is an integral part of our school curriculum and we aim to provide a balanced, informed and empathetic approach to promote health and wellbeing.

Thanks to all of you who offered feedback to the Board. Much of the feedback was around “what” was going to be taught. As was advertised in our last newsletter, we have a Parent Info meeting on

Wednesday 11 October from 4:30-6pm.

We will start together and then split into curriculum level groups to cover over

what we will be teaching. Please note there will not be supervision for children as

staff will be with parents, but your kids are welcome to play outside.
